Smitten Kitchen Blogger Brunch Recap

Typically on Saturday mornings, the Random House Canada offices are quiet, but that wasn’t the case this past Saturday. A select number of bloggers had the opportunity to come into our headquarters to have brunch with blogger extraordinaire and now cookbook author Deb Perelman in celebration of her new cookbook, The Smitten Kitchen.

Deb Perelman Blogger BrunchDeb Perelman is a self-taught home cook and photographer; and the creator of SmittenKitchen.com, an award-winning blog with a focus on stepped-up home cooking through unfussy ingredients. Of course, bloggers adore her, because she’s one of them. She gets them and completely understood why we had to wait to eat any of our treats while every blogger made sure to get a picture of the food displays.

It wasn’t too hard to twist the rubber arm of some of my colleagues to make some dishes from the cookbook to have on hand at the event. I had the pleasure of creating Big Cluster Maple Granola, which tasted delicious and made enough to feed 20 people. We also had Cheddar Swirl Breakfast Buns, Mom’s Apple Cake and Brownie Roll-Out Cookies on hand to serve to our special guest(s) that morning.

It was a great event filled with a question and answer portion where we found out that Deb isn’t a fan of fish, but she continually tries to cook with it for her son’s sake. We also learned that she currently has four different types of mustard in her fridge!
